HS Code Classification: 8708 vs 3926 — The Multi-Million Dollar Distinction
Carbon fiber automotive parts sit at the intersection of two HS code chapters: Chapter 87 (vehicles and parts thereof) and Chapter 39 (plastics and articles thereof). In Australia, the difference is even larger: 5% for automotive parts vs 10% for plastic articles. - European Union: 3.0-4.5% (HS 8708.29), varying by specific member state classification. Germany applies 4.5%. France applies 3.0%. Italy applies 4.5%. Customs authorities need to know exactly what material they are clearing — and “carbon fiber” is not specific enough. - Buyer information: Full name or company name, physical shipping address, and contact telephone number (required by courier services for delivery coordination).
- Goods description: Detailed description of each item, including material (CFRP), manufacturing process, vehicle application, and part number. “Carbon fiber hood for BMW M3” not “auto part.”
- HS code: Correct 6-digit or 10-digit HS code for each item. We use the destination country’s specific tariff code where available.

- Declared value: The transaction value in the destination currency, with a separate line for shipping and insurance costs. We declare the actual purchase price — under-declaring is customs fraud and we will not do it.
- Incoterms: Typically DAP (Delivered At Place) for standard shipments, DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) for EU shipments. We specify the Incoterms and the named place on every invoice.
